Scottish Highlands

Great Scot!

I'll go ahead and preface this, no, I didn't get to see Jamie from Outlander. While disappointed by that, the Scottish highland views more than made up for it! Keeping my eyes peeled for one of those adorable hairy cows!

Leaving Belfast in the wee hours of the morning we boarded a ferry in Lorne to sail across the Sea of Moyle to Scottland. Once on land, we made our way to Sterling to check out Wallace Monument built for William Wallace's famous victory at the Bridge of Stirling. I mean its Braveheart come one! Next, checking out the tower at Abby Craig just atop the hill.

Loaded back up and grazing through the highlands we decided on a little pick me up by touring a local whisky distillary Glengoyne. I learned the ins and outs about how Whisky is made and about the different types made there. And obviously had a little taste test! Delicious! Its so much more special after learning about the process and hard work put into the making of their single malt whisky.

Venturing between highlands and lowlands we made our way past vast lush green fields home to many lochs and the famous Jacobite steam train. It was everything you would dream the Hogwarts express would be. The Jacobite steam train experience is on my bucket list but I just couldn't find the time to fit it on this trip. Would love to hear from those who have experience or recommendations about this! Making our way through the winding hills and gorgeous green pastures we stopped for the night at Loch Lomond to rest up to tackle more Scotland views tomorrow.

Waking up on the serene lake of Loch Lomond was so dreamy. Watching the mist envelop the lake with the slight chill in the air really gave me a feel for what the typical weather is here in the highlands. Much needed change from the heat wave.Ready to tackle the day and another loch we made our way to the famous Loch Ness to see if we could spot old Nessie! Opting to take the boat ride and take in all the scenery and sunshine we made our way across the lake to Urquhart castle. Overall the whole experience was really fun with the legends and theories but my favorite was just how nice the serene lake was and the views surrounding us.
